My name is Linda Lipshutz. As a psychotherapist for over thirty years, I have dedicated my professional life to helping my clients look within and gain a balanced understanding of their lives. For most of us, the complicated demands and pressures of our everyday lives compromise our ability to be true to our own needs. Consequently, we often cave in to the expectations of others, and do not pay sufficient attention to what is truly important to us.
Too often, we get caught up in self-defeating patterns that undermine our best efforts to succeed in our personal and professional lives. The premise of LifeSmarts Coaching is a process of learning how to make smart choices in all aspects of our lives, and to then have the courage to reach out for what is important. When I work with clients, I challenge them to make responsible and lasting changes that enhance their innate capacity for genuine interpersonal closeness and professional life satisfaction.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with some pretty courageous clients. As I partnered with them through their heavy struggles, and faced major challenges of my own, I discovered a lot about life and relationships.
I, myself, have been through some very dark periods, and there were times that I had trouble seeing my own way. What I discovered, however, was that my greatest growth often occurred during the bleakest of moments. Somewhere along the way, I developed an unwavering optimism and belief in the human spirit and a strong commitment to helping others come up with their own answers.
I received degrees from Cornell and Columbia and trained at the renowned Ackerman Institute for Marital and Family Therapy in Manhattan. I have had additional training through MentorCoach, a program especially designed for experienced mental health professionals to transition their therapeutic skills to a coaching model. Since the 1980's, I have served as a consultant to the human resource departments of major corporations and advised managers and employees on a multitude of workplace and personal issues.
On a more personal note, I am in a wonderful second marriage, and the proud parent of two adult children and two adult stepchildren who have given me tremendous joy. I am blessed to have a long-standing, full client base of remarkable individuals who challenge me and inspire me on a daily basis to grow in leaps and bounds.
I have discovered the joys of a regular, rigorous exercise routine, and truly believe that physical activity has a powerful impact on mood and energy. I love to dance, especially at weddings, although my kids have informed me that I'm not always the most graceful! I love to linger over a cup of coffee with a trusted friend and especially love to explore exotic, new places.
I will confess that I am a voracious reader and one of my biggest pleasures in life is curling up with a great book. It is just as satisfying to turn a friend or loved one onto a book that makes an impact. For this reason, one of the regular features in my LifeSmarts Coaching newsletters is called "Great Reads". If my readers enjoy these books half as much as I did, it will be a source of tremendous satisfaction. And, of course, I would be immensely grateful to those of you who refer me to your favorites.
